Education
Originating from the San Francisco Bay Area, I am a graduate from Fordham University in New York City, with a double major in Biological Sciences and Sociology and a double minor in Business Administration and Chemistry. I am a member of the Omicron Delta Epsilon, Alpha Kappa Delta, and Sigma Xi honor societies and received a nomination for a Senior Leadership Award. I am beginning my graduate studies in the M.S. Biomedical Sciences program at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai this fall.
Experience
In addition to science, I have nurtured in myself a sincere passion for writing ever since my early childhood, during which I even published my version of a famous Indian epic entitled "Ramayana: A Children's Epic." I have been a Layout Editor, Assistant News Editor, and Staff Writer in my high school and university newspapers and editing numerous articles besides managing layout. Although I am a science major, I strongly believe that writing and communication are essential no matter what profession one enters and therefore have dedicated time and effort towards improving my own style and approach to writing. I have experience conducting consultation services for students writing personal statements for undergraduate, graduate, and nursing school admissions, and I attained a perfect score on the Writing component of the SAT, ACT, and GRE exams. I have previously tutored West Valley College students through their introductory biology courses and helped them raise their grades by two letter grades. I worked with CitySquash, where I tutored Bronx high school students in chemistry. Furthermore, I taught workshops at Bronx high schools in Sexual Decision Making and Nutrition/Physical Activity, as a part of my involvement with Peer Health Exchange, a national non-profit organization that works to educate and increase awareness in schools regarding numerous health issues. I also worked with Jumpstart, to enhance phonemic awareness and alphabet knowledge in preschool students belonging to low-income neighborhoods in the Bronx. I love interacting with younger students and getting to know each and every one of my students. I strongly believe that providing personal attention is key in motivating students to succeed and overcome challenges. I am a patient, relaxed, and calm instructor and am willing to modify instruction to match and fulfill the student's needs and parents' requests. During my undergraduate career, I have had exposure to the following courses among others: - Statistics - General Genetics with Lab - Evolutionary Biology - Cell Biology - Virology - Biochemistry - Microbiology with Lab - Human Physiology with Lab - Ecology with Lab - Methods of Chemical Research - Foundations of Psychology with Lab - Organic Chemistry with Lab - General Physics with Lab - Moral Aspects of Medicine - Sociology of Medicine - Real Estate Finance - Business Communication - Financial Accounting and Management

Hobbies
As I mentioned above, I was actively involved in writing and editing for my university's newspaper, primarily in the news, opinion, and culture sections. I was responsible for layout and interviewing numerous students, scholars, and faculty members within and outside the community of Fordham University. I served as president of the South Asian association at Fordham University, and I worked for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Fordham University, where I mentored prospective students and gave campus tours to families and answering any questions they may have about the school. I am also involved with on-campus service organizations such as our Emergency Medical Services and Peer Health Exchange. Throughout my life, I have pursued vocal music and performed a few concerts in the United States and Canada. I truly enjoy these activities and aspire to improve upon my skills as I continue my experiences and journey with them. Research is also one of my strongest passions. I had the opportunity to work in world-renowned institutions, such as Albert Einstein College of Medicine (malarial immunology), UCSF Medical Center (transplant immunology and clinical research), University of Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture and Bioresources (Canada; pulse crop genomics), and Vaccine and Infectious Diseases Organization (Canada; veterinary microbiology/biotechnology). I presented three poster projects at the Fordham Undergraduate Research Symposium 2013 and 2014. I have also obtained clinical experiences in a plethora of healthcare settings, including St. Barnabas Hospital (inpatient hospice unit), UCSF Medical Center (shadowing and rounds), Fordham EMS, and Stanford University School of Medicine Blood Center. I am currently working on obtaining my New York state certification in the practice of phlebotomy.
